Artificial flowers, great for the planet and your aesthetic
Although fresh flowers provide a huge amount of joy, as natural products that are dependent upon the environment in which they are grown, they come from a wide variety of sources which can be environmentally destructive. There are more sustainable ways in which we can bring florals into our decor – from taking steps to tackle climate change, to being more mindful about the products we purchase.
There is no single official definition of sustainability in the flower industry. Being a sustainable florist means making choices that protect the health of the earth and the environment, artificial flowers could be the answer to sustainability issues.
Not only are they low-maintenance and beautiful to look at, but they’re also eco-friendly and responsibly sourced. Bringing nature inside, faux flowers easily transform a room from boring to welcoming.
The three elements of sustainability are reduce, reuse and recycle. Reusability is an important factor in living sustainably, and faux flowers are a clear winner in this category. The longer you use your artificial arrangements instead of fresh flowers, the more positive impact they will have on your wellbeing and the reduction of your carbon footprint.
Artificial flowers are inexpensive as they simply don’t die, whereas fresh flowers can last anywhere from 5-7 days and every bouquet has a shelf life. If you want fresh flowers in your house all the time, you reincur all of the toxins, costs, emissions and packaging each time you purchase a new bouquet.
Artificial flowers, on the other hand, can last for years or even decades. So, not only are the emissions, toxins and packaging reduced in comparison to fresh flowers, when you purchase an artificial bouquet you won’t reincur environmental costs for a long time either.
Demmery’s artificial arrangements are designed and manufactured in the UK and because faux flowers don’t have a shelf life, they can be boxed up and easily transported. In comparison, transportation is an issue for fresh flowers as they must be shipped by air or boat to their destination country and then transported in refrigerated trucks to their final destinations, this produces large amounts of emissions due to the use of excessive transportation.
Having our luxury artificial flowers in a vase allows you the beauty that flowers bring without a large bill at the end of the month, they also require no watering, supplements or special lighting. They can be maintained by any level of expertise, all they require is a light dusting. Incredibly easy to maintain, there is no need to learn how to look after artificial flowers in different seasons or monitor the room temperature, they always remain their best.
